How can I help Flo's Seniors?
You do not need special training or a lot of spare time. Most of what our volunteers do is ordinary and human: a phone call, a lift, an afternoon packing hampers.
What does volunteering on the phone involve?
Our Calling Initiative pairs volunteers with seniors who might otherwise go days without speaking to anyone. It is a regular call, a real conversation, and it means someone notices early if something is wrong.
Can I volunteer as a driver?
Our door-to-door transportation takes seniors to medical appointments, the shops and community events across Ottawa and Gatineau. Drivers are the reason a missed appointment does not become a missed diagnosis.
What help do you need at events?
Flo's Annual Honouring, Kwanzaa celebrations and wellness afternoons all need hands on the day: welcoming guests, serving food, setting up and clearing away.
How can I help with holiday hampers?
Each holiday season we assemble gift baskets and hampers for seniors and families. Last year that reached 10 seniors and 3 families, and this year we are aiming for 15 seniors and 10 families.
Can my organisation sponsor your work?
We welcome individual sponsors, corporate sponsors, community partners and other non-profit organisations. Sponsorship supports our programmes while giving your organisation visibility in the Ottawa community.
How do I get started as a volunteer?
Email admin@floseniors.com or call 613-292-3375, Monday to Friday between 9:30am and 5:00pm. Tell us roughly how much time you have and what you would enjoy, and we will find something that fits.
